Douglas Lee Shire was born March 26, 1954, in Enid, Oklahoma to Wilfred “Fred” and Donna Fern (Cox) Shire. He passed away July 8, 2023, in Wakita, Oklahoma after a short battle with cancer.
He attended school at Jefferson and then later Pond Creek. On January 9, 1976, he was united in marriage to Kim Bagenstos. To this union, one daughter, Lindy was born. He later married Pamela (Sam) Jones on August 31, 2001.
Doug had many talents. It seemed that anything he decided to do he excelled at. His welding skills were second to none and could lay a perfect bead left or right-handed. No matter the job, he always seemed to return to trucking. He once said it was due to it never being monotonous.
He wasn’t very vocal with his love, but he was always willing to give the shirt off his back or his last dollar to help someone out. Later in life, he really enjoyed being around his family and attending their activities.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Daniel Shire. He is survived by his daughter Lindy (Justin) Cronister of Meade, Kansas. One granddaughter Hadlea Cronister of Stillwater, Oklahoma and one grandson Cade Cronister of Meade, Kansas. Brothers Roger Shire of Medford, Oklahoma and Steve Shire of Enid, Oklahoma. Numerous nieces and nephews and more friends than one could count.
Memorial service for Douglas Shire, 69, will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, OK. Memorials may be made to Hawley Cemetery.
