Jimmy Darling Stowers

February 14, 1941 — April 13, 2025

Pond Creek, OK

.

Jimmy Darling Stowers was born on February 14, 1941, in Pond Creek, Oklahoma to Vance and Thressie (Barwick) Stowers. Jim attended Pond Creek Schools until he began working with his dad at the Pond Creek packing plant. In 1960 Jim began working for the city of Pond Creek, where he was elected as Street Commissioner, until his retirement in 2003.

In 1960, Jim and Jeanetta Spears were joined in marriage and began a life of 65 years together. To this union, God blessed Jim and Jeanetta with three children, Darla, Michelle and Monty.

During his life, Jim enjoyed many hobbies and activities. He was an avid outdoorsman and could often be found with his best friend, son Monty, on hunting and fishing outings. Jim enjoyed coon hunting with his hounds, rabbit hunting with his beagles, coyote hunting and fishing. While hand fishing, Jim caught his largest fish at 62 lbs. and proudly shared the story for years to come. Jim raised many animals, especially birds and his favorite were his Banty chickens. He was an eternal tinkerer, always working in the yard and around the house. He loved to paint, making people comment, “if it didn’t move, it got a coat of paint.” Jim was a proud volunteer firefighter for the city of Pond Creek, wearing badge #8 and serving his community for many years. After retirement from the fire department and the City, Jim became an active member of the Coffee Shop Guys, sharing stories, gossiping and solving the world’s problems on a daily basis with some of the wisest men in Pond Creek.

Jim was a quiet Christian, but had such joy when sharing with his son-in-law John, his salvation story about giving his heart to Jesus when he was a boy.

Those left on this earth until they meet again in Heaven, are Jim's wife Jeanetta of the home, daughter Darla (John) Pendergraft of Pond Creek, daughter Michelle Mareno of Duncan, and son Monty of the home. He is survived by three grandchildren, Lindsey (Lamar) Elston of Pond Creek, Megan Tellez of Wakita, and Marcos Fuentes of Duncan, seven great-grandchildren, Reagan, Kennedy and Levi McReynolds; Linley Elston; and Maci, M.J., and Walker Fuentes; and a sister, Joyce Autry.

Jim has been welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Vance and Thressie Stowers; brothers Art, Wayne, Bob and Bill; sisters Wanda Easterly and Leona Wager; and grandson Josh McReynolds.

We are thankful for the years and memories shared with Jim by all those who remember him fondly.
