Kenny Lee Wire, age 78, passed away peacefully on September 16th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Medford, Oklahoma. Born in Enid, Oklahoma on April 15th, 1946, Kenny lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to his family, friends, and community.
Kenny spent his childhood in Medford, Oklahoma, and was a proud graduate of the Medford High School Class of 1964. During his school years, he was deeply involved in his community and activities, participating in the Medford Methodist Youth Choir, Boy Scouts, and multiple sports including football, basketball, track, and baseball. He also played in the school band, served as a class officer, and was a proud member of the Letterman's Club. His dedication on the football field earned him a nomination for All District Football.
Following his high school graduation, Kenny met and married the love of his life, Florence Miller. Together, they built a home in the Medford area, raising their children in a close-knit, loving environment.
Kenny attended the University of Central Oklahoma before answering the call to serve his country. In January 1966 he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with honor as a Nike Hercules Missile Specialist during the Vietnam War. Kenny was honorably discharged in 1970 as a Sergeant (E-5), returning home to Medford with a deep sense of pride and patriotism.
A hard-working and resourceful man, Kenny owned and operated Ken’s AC/Heating, a business that faithfully served Grant County for over two decades. He was a man who balanced his professional life with an unwavering commitment to his family. Weekends were often spent at the lake, enjoying time together. He was actively involved in his children’s school and extracurricular activities and took great pride in supporting and mentoring them.
An outdoorsman and an athlete at heart, Kenny was a long-time member of the Wakita Horse Club, and he enjoyed playing in local softball, pool, and bowling leagues. He was also known as a skilled and strategic Pitch card player, a game he loved to play with friends and family. Kenny’s warm personality and natural charm meant that he never met a stranger. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always willing to lend a hand or give the shirt off his back to those in need.
To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kenny was lovingly known as "Papa Kenny (PK)"—a constant source of love, wisdom, and joy. His family was the heart of his life, and his love for them was immeasurable.
Kenny is preceded in death by his father Marrion Albert Wire, his mother Wanda Marie Wire, his beloved wife Florence Marie Wire, and his sister Jean Marie Chance and brother-in-law Kenneth Matthew Chance.
He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory: his daughter Kari Huskey of Norman, Oklahoma, his son Kris Wire and wife Jennifer of Medford, Oklahoma. His grandchildren: Russell Wire and wife Kendra of Pond Creek, Oklahoma, and their sons Waylon, Wade, and Walker; Brent Wire and fiancée Makayla Springer of Enid, Oklahoma, and their daughters Marie and Melanie; Justin Wire of Enid, Oklahoma; Morgan Wire and her son Wyatt of Medford, Oklahoma; and Aidan Huskey of Norman, Oklahoma, And bonus granddaughter Cadence Shriver and her husband Eston and their children Jamison, Londyn and Theo. Kenny is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends as well as his faithful Dalmatian companion, Rosy, who brought him immense joy in his later years.
A viewing will be held at Wilson Funeral Home in Pond Creek, Oklahoma on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Funeral services will take place at the Pond Creek Methodist Church on Friday, September 20th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Randy Kiel., Interment will follow at Pond Creek Cemetery officiated by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kenny’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Project or the ASPCA, two causes close to his heart. Kenny’s kindness, generosity, and boundless love for his family and community will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
